Goa, taken slowly, is a different country. We have designed this short journey for travellers who would rather sit with a place than tick it off, for mornings that begin with filter coffee on a shaded verandah, and afternoons that ask very little of the body. We stay in the south, where the beaches keep their quiet and the lanes still belong to old houses. We walk only where walking feels good. We pause for the churches of Old Goa, for the soft Portuguese light of Fontainhas, for a long Indian lunch among the spice trees. This is Goa with the rush taken out, a coast that reveals itself gently, in its own time, to those who are no longer in a hurry to be anywhere else.

The Itinerary

5 days, day by day.

  1. Day One

    Delhi to the southern shore

    South Goa  ·  Dinner

We gather at Delhi airport in the morning and fly together to Goa with our tour manager. A private coach meets the group and carries us, unhurried, to a vetted 4-star resort in the south, where the beaches are quieter and the casuarinas lean towards the sea. The afternoon is yours, unpack slowly, walk to the shoreline if you wish, or simply rest. We meet again for dinner at an Indian restaurant within the resort.

  2. Day Two

Old Goa, in the cool of the morning

South Goa  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

After an unhurried breakfast, we drive to Old Goa with a local English-speaking guide. We walk gently between the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the Se Cathedral, pausing often, sitting where there is shade. The air inside the laterite walls is cool and the centuries feel close. Lunch is a long, traditional Indian thali at a vetted restaurant nearby. We return to the resort by mid-afternoon for rest, and meet for dinner at an Indian restaurant.

  3. Day Three

Spice trees and a slow afternoon

South Goa  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

We drive inland to a working spice plantation, where the air carries cardamom and the paths are flat and shaded. The walk is short and gentle, with benches set among the pepper vines. Lunch is served on banana leaves at the plantation, an Indian meal of slow-cooked curries and warm rice, eaten without hurry. The afternoon returns us to the resort, where the pool waits and the sea is a short walk away. Dinner is Indian, at the hotel.

  4. Day Four

Fontainhas, and a river at dusk

South Goa and Panjim  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

A late morning drive brings us to Panjim's Latin Quarter. We walk Fontainhas in short, easy stretches, yellow houses, blue shutters, a chapel at the corner, with our guide pacing the morning to the group. Lunch is at a quiet Indian restaurant tucked into the old lanes. As the afternoon softens, we board a sunset cruise on the Mandovi, seated in the shade, watching the river turn copper. Dinner follows back at the resort.

  5. Day Five

A morning to ourselves, then home

South Goa to Delhi  ·  Breakfast

The last morning is unhurried and entirely yours, a slow breakfast, a final walk along the shore, perhaps an hour with a book under the palms. By late morning we check out together and drive to the airport, where our tour manager sees the group through to the flight back to Delhi. We land in the capital by evening, a little slower than we left it, which is rather the point.
