Kerala asks very little of you, which is precisely why we send our travellers there. The light is softer here. The water moves at its own pace. The hills above Munnar smell faintly of cardamom and rain, and the backwaters, when you finally drift onto them, seem to suspend the day entirely. We have shaped this journey for the way our travellers travel now, short drives broken by rest, hotels chosen for their proximity to the things worth seeing, and unhurried mornings that begin only when you are ready. There is no schedule that hurries you. There are no early starts before the body has had its tea. What there is, quietly, is one of the gentlest landscapes in India, and time, generously given, to settle into it.

The Itinerary

6 days, day by day.

  1. Day One

Delhi to Cochin, the southern arrival

    Cochin  ·  Dinner

We meet at Delhi airport in the late morning and fly south together as a group. Cochin receives us warmly, humid, green, unhurried. A short transfer brings us to a vetted 4-star resort, where rooms are ready and tea is waiting. The afternoon is left open, deliberately, to rest after the flight. In the evening, we gather for a quiet Indian dinner at a restaurant close to the hotel.

  2. Day Two

    Fort Kochi, slowly

Cochin  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

After an unhurried breakfast, a local English-speaking guide walks us gently through Fort Kochi. The Chinese fishing nets at the waterfront, the old spice lanes, a synagogue tucked into a quiet street. Distances are short. Benches are plentiful. Lunch is at an Indian restaurant nearby. The afternoon returns us to the resort for rest, and in the evening we watch a seated Kathakali performance before a calm dinner together.

  3. Day Three

    Up to the tea hills

Munnar  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

We drive up to Munnar in air-conditioned coaches, climbing slowly through plantations and mist. The road is winding but the pace is gentle, with stops where the views ask to be paused over. Lunch is taken at an Indian restaurant en route. By late afternoon we arrive at our 4-star hill resort, settle in, and gather for an early Indian dinner. The air, by now, is cool and quiet.

  4. Day Four

    Among the tea gardens

Munnar  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

A leisurely morning in Munnar. We visit a tea museum and walk, only as much as the body wishes, through a working plantation with our guide. The viewpoints are reached by road, not by climb. Lunch is at an Indian restaurant in town. The afternoon is yours, for the spa, the garden, a book, a long window. We dine together at the resort, early, by warm light.

  5. Day Five

    Down to the backwaters

Alleppey houseboat  ·  Breakfast, lunch & dinner

We descend from the hills gently, breaking the drive for rest, and reach Alleppey by midday. Our private houseboat waits, each traveller in a private room with attached bath. Lunch is served on board as we drift. The afternoon passes slowly, watching village life move along the water. A South Indian thali is prepared for dinner as the sun lowers. The boat moors for the night in still water.

  6. Day Six

    Cochin, and the flight home

    Cochin to Delhi  ·  Breakfast

Breakfast is taken on the houseboat as it returns to the jetty. We transfer, unhurried, to Cochin airport for our group flight back to Delhi with the tour manager. Most groups, by now, have become something like friends, and there are quiet exchanges of numbers at the gate. We land in Delhi by evening, where the journey closes, gently, as it began.
