A Journey We Offer · India
Udaipur,
Udaipur, *taken slowly, from a boat.
There is a particular quiet to Udaipur in the late afternoon, when the light softens on the lake and the palaces begin to look as though they are floating. We have always thought of this as a city best met on its own terms, slowly, from the water, from a shaded courtyard, from the cool stone of a temple at the close of the day. Our journey here is built for that pace. Five unhurried days, a heritage palace stay, short distances between sights, and the room to sit a while when the heart wants to. No early starts. No long coaches. Indian meals, considered and warm. A small group of travellers, a tour manager from Delhi, and *the slow way* through one of India's most quietly beautiful cities.

The Itinerary
5 days, day by day.
- Day One
Delhi to Udaipur, an easy arrival
Udaipur · Dinner
We gather at Delhi airport in the morning and fly together to Udaipur, our tour manager travelling with the group. On arrival, a private coach carries us to our heritage palace hotel beside the lake. The afternoon is left open, a slow tea on the terrace, a walk only as far as the body wishes. As the light fades, we sit down to a considered Indian dinner at the hotel's restaurant, and rest in our own time.
- Day Two
The City Palace, *unhurried*
Udaipur · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
After a relaxed breakfast we walk gently into the City Palace with a local English-speaking guide, pausing often in its courtyards and mirrored chambers. The pace is kind. A short stop follows at the Jagdish temple, close by. Lunch is at an Indian restaurant within easy reach of the hotel. The afternoon stays soft, a rest, perhaps a quiet hour by the lake, before an Indian dinner together as the city lamps come on.
- Day Three
Pichola by boat, an evening of light
Udaipur · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
The morning belongs to Saheliyon-ki-Bari, the garden of the maidens, where the fountains run on water pressure alone and the lotus pools sit perfectly still. Lunch is taken at an Indian restaurant nearby. In the late afternoon we board a slow boat onto Lake Pichola, the palaces drifting past in gold. We close the day with the lamp-lit folk performance at Bagore-ki-Haveli, then a warm Indian dinner.
- Day Four
Eklingji, Nathdwara, Nagda, the quiet road
Udaipur · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
An optional, gentle day-trip out of the city for those who wish, Eklingji's hushed sanctum, the bhog at Nathdwara, and the carved stillness of the Sas Bahu temples at Nagda. The drive is short, the walking light, and there is no obligation to join. Lunch is at a vetted Indian restaurant en route. Travellers who prefer a slower day may remain at the hotel. We return for an Indian dinner together.
- Day Five
A last morning by the lake, and home
Udaipur to Delhi · Breakfast
Our final morning is left deliberately open. Some walk down to the ghats for a last look at the water. Others stay a while longer over breakfast on the terrace. In due course we transfer together to the airport and fly back to Delhi with our tour manager, arriving with the soft feeling of a city that was *almost embarrassingly simple* to love.
