There is a particular pleasure in arriving somewhere green and unhurried after a long winter at home. Vietnam, for our travellers, is exactly that. We have built this six-day journey around two quiet anchors, the old streets of Hanoi, and a single slow night afloat on Halong Bay, and left the rest of the time to breathe. The walks are short. The hotels sit close to the things worth seeing. Meals are at familiar Indian tables, the kind of food the body recognises after a day abroad. A Good Radius tour manager travels with the group from Delhi and back again, so the small logistics, the boarding pass, the porter, the bottle of water at the right moment, are quietly looked after. It is, in the end, *the slow way* to see a country that rewards slowness.

The Itinerary

- Day One
Delhi to Hanoi, gently begun
Hanoi · Dinner
We gather at Indira Gandhi International in the late morning and fly together to Hanoi, the tour manager travelling with the group. On arrival, an air-conditioned coach takes us to our 4-star hotel near the Old Quarter, chosen for its lift, its quiet floors, and its closeness to everything we plan to see. Dinner is at an Indian restaurant within walking distance. An early night, with nothing asked of anyone.
- Day Two
Hanoi, slowly on foot
Hanoi · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
After a leisurely breakfast, we walk gently around Hoan Kiem Lake with a local English-speaking guide, short stretches, benches when wanted. We visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, taking it courtyard by courtyard. Lunch is Indian, sit-down, considered. The afternoon is yours to rest. In the evening, a traditional water-puppet show, performed seated, just as we like it, followed by dinner nearby.
- Day Three
The drive to Halong, the boat at noon
Halong Bay (overnight cruise) · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
We leave Hanoi after breakfast for the drive to Halong, with a comfortable rest stop along the way. By midday we are aboard our cruise, a vessel chosen for cabins on lower decks, with easy access and steady footing. Lunch is served on board with Indian options arranged in advance. The afternoon drifts past karst islands. We watch the light change. Dinner aboard, and a quiet night on the water.
- Day Four
Sunrise on the bay, return to Hanoi
Hanoi · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
Those who wish rise for the soft light over the limestone; others stay for a long breakfast on deck. We cruise on through hidden coves before disembarking late morning. The coach returns us to Hanoi by early evening, with a proper Indian lunch broken into the journey. Back at our hotel, the evening is unhurried, a walk in the Old Quarter for those with the energy, dinner in good company.
- Day Five
Ninh Binh, the inland bay
Hanoi · Breakfast, lunch & dinner
A day trip south to Ninh Binh, often called the Halong on land. At Tam Coc we board small sampans, two or three guests to a boat, and glide slowly between rice paddies and stone cliffs. The rowing is done for us; we sit and look. Lunch is Indian, arranged en route. We return to Hanoi by late afternoon, with time to rest before a final dinner together in the city.
- Day Six
Hanoi to Delhi, home by evening
Hanoi to Delhi · Breakfast
A relaxed breakfast and a late check-out where the flight allows. The morning is free, a last walk by the lake, a small purchase from the Old Quarter, a coffee in the lobby. The coach collects us in good time. We fly together back to Delhi, the tour manager seeing each traveller through immigration and into the arrivals hall, where the journey quietly closes.

When to travel
The best months for this journey.
October through April is the kindest window for our travellers, dry, cool, and gentle on the bay; we avoid the high heat and the summer rains.
